WASH – Innovative Latrines around Hawassa

EIWR has piloted two sustainable dry latrines (VIP) at Chefe Jebesa and Bushello primary schools near Hawassa town serving more than 1400 girl students.  EIWR used UNICEF, Ministry of Health and Ministry of Water Irrigation and Energy 2010 design guideline as starting point for the latrines but then added modification based on feedback from the community.  The latrines will be complete in early July, 2014, but before school lets out EIWR will host an inaugural ceremony with school families where families will be shown the new facility.

Adopted manual rural latrine manual with special consideration to integrate sanitary rooms with the existing latrine mode.
