On 13th November 2014, the future Interim Director of the Ethiopian Institute of Water Resources, Dr Dereje Hailu was appointed by Addis Ababa University.
Dr. Dereje Hailu holds MSc degree in Hydraulic Engineering and a Doctorate in Water Resources Engineering, from Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany. He started his career at Addis Ababa University as a lecturer. In 1996, he moved to Germany and became Research Staff at Technical University of Darmstadt, Institute for Hydrology and Water Resources Engineering, Darmstadt, Germany. Dr Dereje joined ProAqua Engineering Consulting Firm, Aachen in 2001 where he held a position as Water Resources/Hydraulic Engineer. The key responsibilities in this role included Coordinated and worked on projects in water resources development and management for state authorities in Germany, developed conceptual frameworks and computer models for water resources planning and management. Since 2002, Dr. Dereje has been working as Assistant Professor of Water Resources Engineering at the Addis Ababa University.
Dr Dereje has many years of experience in academic institution as a researcher and lecturer. He has also vast experience working with multidisciplinary teams on water resources studies, planning and designing of projects.
EIWR is currently refreshing its vision, structures and strategy under the leadership of its new Interim Director. The Interim Director will play a central role in forming this vision and shaping directions of change.
