A Delegation of the University of Arizona visited EIWR

Prof. Juan B Valdes, Department of Hydrology and Water Resources and Prof. Aleix Serrat Capdevila, Research Associate from the University of Arizona visited EIWR from February 23rd to March 1st, 2015. The objectives of the visit were to develop a collaborative relationship between the University of Arizona and the Ethiopian Institute of Water Resources in order to exchange knowledge and information, support research endeavors, develop monitoring and forecasting tools, etc.

During discussions with EIWR the professors made a presentation to Dr Dereje Hailu, EIWR Director and staff on the SERVIR Program, an overview of ongoing projects and then presented their project: The SERVIR Water Africa-Arizona Team (SWAAT) Project: Goals and Strategy. Precipitation monitoring and streamflow forecasting: project content and work done until today. They also mentioned collaboration and efforts in the setting of ICIWaRM-UNESCO and GWADI networks and other ongoing projects in HWR-Arizona. Dr Dereje presented the water resources context in Ethiopia, background and ongoing activities in EIWR.

In addition, the professors from University of Arizona also gave a seminar to EIWR students and staff on “RS and satellite data applications in hydrology and water resources: selected case studies
